UPCOMING EVENTS

Animal Advocates - Saturday, June 28th at Noon

For the month of June Children for Charity will ask kids to become animal advocates and will be working with the Popcorn Park Zoo of Forked River. Kids who participate will collect as many needed items for the animals of the zoo as possible and will then meet at the zoo on Saturday, June 28th to drop off these items, take a picture with the Popcorn Park Zoo staff and tour the zoo. We are asking that each child who participates brings at least one item to the zoo. Easy items to collect that can be found around the house are old towels, bed sheets and blankets. Registration is required and can be found here.

These are used by the zoo often for bedding. Other items that the zoo is in need of are listed below:

  1. Canned cat & dog food
  2. Leashes
  3. Collars
  4. Toys & treats for dogs & cats
  5. Cleaning supplies – bleach, Lysol, spic n span, paper towels, brooms
  6. Shelled peanuts without salt
  7. Rabbit or guinea pig food

For a printable list please click here.

Registration for this event is required as we need to have an idea of how many children will be participating. Please register online by clicking here.

RECENT EVENTS

Kids Compete for Kids

On Sunday, May 4th, 20 children came out and competed in various races including a blindfolded challenge, egg balancing, pillow case hoping and watermelon eating contest. In giving of their time and effort they earned 25 New Toys for the children who are at Child Life Services at Monmouth Medical Center. We couldn't be prouder of the kids that worked so hard and the older teens who came out to help supervise. Thank you for giving back to the community and caring about others!

Toys will arrive at Monmouth Medical Center on Wednesday, May 15th. We will deliver the toys and the poster board the children made at 1:30pm. We'll be sure to take pictures and post them when we receive them. A big thank you to everyone who made this event possible! Image gallery and video from event will be posted soon.

A list of suggestions for Random Acts of Kindness for Kids

Blossom International spent the afternoon of Saturday, Febuary 16th at the Manasquan Post Office with several child volunteers to distribute gifts to the community. Over 300 candy bars, tote bags, stamps and items were distributed. It was a wonderful event and a huge thank you to the children and their caregivers who made it such a success.

Pencils for Kids

TOTAL PENCILS COLLECTED: 6,343!

Thanks to a group who shipped their pencils directly to the World Camp, Inc., the organization was able to bring some of the pencils with them on their January trip. World Camp, Inc. was nice enough to send us these pictures and you can view them at our image gallery. The 6,343 pencils we collected were shipped and will not be received by the children in Africa until May on World Camp's next scheduled trip.

Your group can still help out year round by contacting Maria at The Pencil Project. This organization works year round to make sure that children get the pencils they need to learn.

A HUGE, TREMENDOUS THANK YOU to everyone who has collected pencils. We received pencils from all across the nation including California, Maine, Washington, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana and several Girl Scout troops, schools and businesses in New Jersey. A special thank you to The Gems and Gents of Worth, Zeta Youth Affiliates Mu Zeta Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. from Louisiana, Maddie from Knowles Elementary School in Texas, 4th Grader Niko from California, Jessica from Garden State Pain Management in New Jersey, the 3rd Grade Brownie Troop from Manasquan, the children from Woodmoor in Washington and many more! We managed to collect far more than we ever imagined and it is all because of the generous work of all of you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The Importance of Animals - This event allowed children to participate in helping to save the local birds the piping plover and least tern that nests on the beach in Sea Girt. We worked directly in co-ordination with the Wreck Pond Association who has volunteers work all the time to help protect these birds. Children learned all about these birds, their habits and why it is so important that they are protected. The Wreck Pond Association always needs help with their mission to help the Piping Plover and you can find other ways you can help by contacting Nancy at 732-449-8764.
